On one of my many scuba dives at Tunnels Reef I was just going slow and taking video of the native fish species for my upcoming new video "Near Shore Hawaiian Fish". I happened to notice what looked like a rock, but it moved! I went over with my camera on and saw a "day octopus". These octopus are active in the day while the other octopus species are active at night. They blend in with the reef so well that most people never see them. Once I got close the octopus changed colors. They can change colors and shape faster than any other animal I have ever seen. As the octopus darted off I followed as fast as I could holding the camera on him to see his color changes. It is truly an amazing sight, and video of this color change is super rare. Out of 1,000 scuba dives in Kauai I have done, this is the fist time I have shot good video of a day octopus on the run.
