Aloha Hanalei Surfers,
I did some movies today for the KORE handicap surfing event and was honored to take video of a guy named Cameron from my home town of San Luis Obispo CA. He lost an arm and two legs in an accident and now he is on Kauai surfing! He rips and he has more of the Aloha spirit than I have seen in a surfers in a long time.
It is not about the biggest wave or the front cover of surfer magazine that counts. It is about your own personal relationship with the sea and connecting with nature. This guy does it both and I hope to have his story on the Discovery Channel soon so others can share in his enthusiasm about life.
As most of you know my passion is to help save the coral reefs in the world that help shape our best surf spots. Every wave is connected with the reef and marine life, along with each surfer, diver or kayaker!
Our reefs are dying here in Kauai and it is my job to bring up the awareness of this problem. For a thousand years the Hawaiians took care of their reefs, corals and marine life and they were rewarded with good surf!
Cameron is making the best out of his “problems” but we both agree that stress causes change and change is good. I know he will be a big help in teaching people how to get through huge life changes and also how to get through the changes effecting our reefs and ocean.
Enjoy the pics and please visit my new web at www.underwater2web.com where I will have all of today’s pics posted soon and have many cool underwater movies posted.
We will have our underwater and surf video series done soon that will go to schools all over Hawaii and CA soon and my next video “Hawaiian Nearshore Fish” will also be done soon! All of the proceeds from our movies will go to our non profit to study, heal and protect Hanalei Bay.
